Jump Right In and Be Yourself or The Top Ten Things New Students Should Know

August 19, 2011 by SBS Admissions

This week on our Facebook page we asked students, alums, and fans of Stoneleigh-Burnham School to weigh in and let us know what advice they would offer to new students. We received answers from Owls as far away as Brazil and as close as our own back yard. We've compiled the responses into a list of the top ten things new SBS girls should know. Let us know if you have other advice for new students!

On the Importance of Having Fun

February 08, 2011 by SBS Admissions

I know that Stoneleigh-Burnham School is an academic institution and the girls are here first and foremost to learn. However, I (and perhaps this has to do with my relatively young age and still vivid memories of my own time at Stoneleigh-Burnham) think that having fun, and taking time to enjoy the people around you will teach you lessons that are nearly as important as the ones you will learn in the classroom.

Community.

January 11, 2011 by SBS Admissions

At Stoneleigh-Burnham School we talk about community all the time. In Admissions, we talk about how close knit our community is and how vital it is to the function of our school. We talk about the strong relationships we foster between our faculty and students, and about the fact that everyone, even the Head of School, will know you by name.

Beautifully Different.

December 15, 2010 by SBS Admissions

There is an annual event and online initiative, started in 2009, called #reverb10 that challenges bloggers (new and old) to reflect on the year and consider what's next. Each day they provide bloggers with a prompt to help keep the creative juices flowing. While I have not been actively participating (we're already on December 10th and although I've known about the project for awhile, I'm just starting now) I have been watching the site for inspiration and ideas.

Nerves.

November 05, 2010 by SBS Admissions

Every Admissions Counselor experiences nerves the morning of an Open House. You never know, regardless of registrations, how many families will really show up, whether or not your student tour guides might be out sick or whether at the last minute someone speaking on your panel will forget to show up.

It Gets Better.

October 20, 2010 by SBS Admissions

Today is October 20, 2010. No different than any other Wednesday here at SBS. Many girls are dressed in their soccer or volleyball jerseys, classes will end at noon and there will be a mad rush to the dining hall for lunch. It's the same as every other Wednesday except for one very obvious difference.
