When my son Kian made his first all-star team, his coach informed the team that they would all be getting nicknames. As a pitcher and as a person whose name began with a “K,” my son was given the nickname “Doctor K.” It was clear the coach put a lot of thought into these names, and took a lot of pride in them. It was also clear they were a way to show each kid was unique and special to him.
